Who's running
Joe LombardoRIncumbent
Joe Lombardo spent 34 years in law enforcement and was the Clark County sheriff before running for governor. He won in 2022 and has been governor since 2023. He has vetoed 162 bills in two sessions, the most of any Nevada governor. Trump endorsed him in November 2025, and he won the June 9 primary with about 91 percent.
What they say they'll do
- Be a check on the Democratic Legislature through his veto power.
- Points to a bipartisan housing law and wants more federal land opened for building.
- Right-to-work protections and a strong veto record, which won him the NFIB endorsement.
- Backed by the NRA and police groups.
Aaron FordD
Aaron Ford was a public school teacher before he became a lawyer. He served in the state Senate and rose to majority leader. He has been Nevada's attorney general since 2019. He won the June 9 Democratic primary with about 63 percent over the chair of the Washoe County Commission. Both of Nevada's U.S. senators and Barack Obama have endorsed him.
What they say they'll do
- Affordability for working families.
- Sign new versions of bills Lombardo vetoed on prescription drug costs, corporate home buying, and free school meals.
- Repeal right-to-work.
- Backed by gun violence prevention and abortion rights groups.
The tea ☕
- A pro-Lombardo ad attacked Ford for sponsoring a clemency application for a man convicted of manslaughter. A local TV fact check called the ad's early-release claim misleading, but Democratic Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro said she would not have sponsored the application.
- A state ethics panel advanced a complaint over more than $35,000 in sponsored international trips Ford took. It is an allegation, not a finding.
- Ford says Lombardo vetoed housing bills after a real estate billionaire put about $30 million into his 2022 campaign and an allied PAC.
- Lombardo's side ties Ford to California because Gov. Gavin Newsom endorsed him.
- The two are unlikely to debate. UFC boss Dana White endorsed Lombardo on October 13, and Obama endorsed Ford the next day.
- The polls are a dead heat (the final Noble poll was tied 47 to 47), but prediction markets give Ford about 75 percent.
