- Flippo's campaign called him a Bronze Star for Valor winner in two campaigns. NPR found he got a Bronze Star without the V device for bravery in battle. He apologized, blamed a young staffer, and took down a photo of himself wearing V pins on his hat.
- Retiring Republican Rep. Mark Amodei refused to endorse Flippo and said the race is close because of Flippo's own campaign.
- Flippo has not filed his personal financial disclosure, and critics call him a carpetbagger for moving into the district only after Amodei retired. His campaign says he asked for an extension and put his holdings in a blind trust.
