The tea ☕

  • Hinson ran an ad saying Turek skipped 58% of Iowa House votes in 2026. PolitiFact rated it True: he missed 261 of 445 floor votes while campaigning. His campaign says he has voted with Republicans more than 700 times.
  • Democrats say Hinson's husband, an insurance agent, acted as a 'shadow lobbyist' by setting up meetings between an insurance trade group and lawmakers, including his wife. An ethics complaint was filed. Hinson says he is not a lobbyist, and no wrongdoing has been established.
  • Democrats say Hinson's family wealth grew as much as ten times since she took office. Her 2026 disclosure lists $1 million to $5 million in insurance company stock held by her husband. Hinson says members of Congress should not trade stocks and that she sold her own.
  • A Democratic super PAC ad said Hinson voted against releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files. PolitiFact rated it Mostly False. She voted against some early moves in 2025, but in November 2025 she voted for the bill that released the files.
  • A Republican super PAC ad called Turek 'too liberal' because he voted against a 2023 law on school bathrooms. His campaign said five Republicans also voted no.
  • In 2020 the New York Times found that Hinson's campaign website copied parts of news articles. She apologized, said staff drafted it, and still won that race.
